Rankings and Class
The ELO rating system ranks players based on their skill level in multiplayer games. Players gain more points by winning against a higher-rated opponent than by winning against a lower-rated opponent. Also, players lose more points if they lose a game against a lower-rated opponent. Every player starts with a rating of 1400 that increases when winning a game and decreases when losing a game. The rating can never go below 1000. Classes are used to group ELO rating ranges and help players determine how good their opponent is before starting a game.
Professional Mode - the maximum points that can be won or lost in this type of game is 16

Kickoff
The winner of the coin flip starts on Offense at the 50-yard line and has four downs to gain at least 10 yards and earn a First Down!
-
Possessions
Both teams have one offensive possession per quarter, each of which may result in a touchdown (worth seven points), loss of downs or a turnover. The game is four quarters long.
Each possession starts at the 50-yard line. If the Defense prevents the Offense from gaining a first down, the next offensive possession begins at the 50. If the Defense forces a turnover, the next offensive possession begins at the 50.
Turnovers: Occurs if the Offense loses 25 yards or more from the first down marker after any given play. Again, the next possession starts at the 50-yard line.

Game Play
Each of the five starters on Offense and Defense can be used only once per set of downs, with the exception of the Quarterback on Offense.
All cards must participate in a play before you can reuse them, with the exception of the quarterback. Even in the event of a first down, cards cannot be reused until each has participated in a play.
Play Calling: Next, the Offense announces their play call: Run or Pass. Run plays use only one starter, while Pass plays involve two starters (Quarterback plus another player).
Play Clock: The Offensive and Defensive team will have 15 seconds to select their cards for each play. Failure to do so results in Delay of Game Penalty below depending on the team that commits the foul.
- Offense: loss of 5 yards and down
- Defense: offense gains 5 yards
The Defense is allowed to “boost” the Defense Run or Pass Rating of the selected card by combining that number with the Star Rating of a second card. The Defense may “boost” just ONE play per set of downs.
After the cards have been selected, the Offense and Defense reveal their players and the outcome of the play is determined by the ratings.
Run Plays: Compare the Offense Run Rating and the Defense Run Rating. The difference of the two determines the yardage. For example, if the Offense is 50 and the Defense is 41, the Run gains nine yards. If the defense uses its “boost” on this play and the “boost” rating was six, then the new Defense rating is 47 the rush gains only three yards instead.
Pass Plays: Add the Quarterback Pass Rating and the Pass Rating of the selected player. Take that total, and compare it to the Defense Pass Rating. The difference of the two determines the yardage. For example, if the Quarterback Pass Rating is 30 and the selected Offense Player is also 30, for a total of 60, and the Defense Pass Rating is 50, the Pass gains 10 yards. If the defense uses its “boost” on this play, and the “boost” rating was five, the pass gains five yards instead.
Substitutions: Teams may substitute players only at halftime. However, they can use the same starters throughout the game.
Overtime: If the teams are tied after four quarters, a new coin flip will determine who has the first possession of overtime. The first team to score wins the game.

Professional Mode
Play NFL Adrenalyn XL™ in Professional Mode for a bigger challenge and additional strategy.
Salary Cap: Choose your 14 players in your Team Deck, but the combined Star Ratings of all cards cannot exceed 84. Once you have a Team Deck within this limit you will be able to access a Professional Mode game.
Energy Boost: On each play the non-Quarterback player involved in the play receives a random energy boost for increased yardage! The amount of increased yardage is random and never exceeds the Star Rating of the player. If the Quarterback runs the ball instead, then the Star Rating of the Quarterback is used as the boost limit.
Example: Peyton Manning (QB - PASS 28) throws the ball to Randy Moss (WR - PASS 29, STAR 10). The cards would normally combine for 57. Randy Moss’s Star Rating of 10 is used as the limit and an energy boost of 1-10 yards is added to the play.
Game Clock: Each quarter is controlled by a three minute timer. Both teams are allowed unlimited possessions within the quarter. To prevent the Defensive team from running down the clock, the Game Clock stops once the Offensive team selects their cards and continues once the Defensive team selects their cards. The 15 second Play Clock will continue as the timer for both teams to select their cards.
Field Goals: The Offensive team can kick a field goal during the game. The chance of making the goal is based on the yardage from the goal table below.
Yards Percentage 0-29 97% 30-49 79% 50+ 53%
